Advancing Field-Level Insight with MonitorML

Regrow announces MonitorML, a new remote sensing-based machine learning model, to unlock greater reporting and project planning precision, and make it easier for farmers to participate in regenerative ag programs.

Introducing MonitorML

It's a critical time for food and ag sustainability programs. We must accelerate action to meet rapidly approaching 2030 climate targets, which means incentivizing more growers in ag supply chains to adopt practices that reduce and remove emissions. However, large scale investments in regenerative ag can be risky without strong data informing your business case.

That's why high quality data has been at the heart of Regrow from the beginning. For nearly 8 years, our team of climate scientists and engineers has brought leading edge climate modeling to ag supply chains across 5 continents, helping to cut more than 800,000 metric tons of CO2e and counting.

And now, we're bringing even greater scale and precision to sustainability decision making with our newest monitoring capabilities, powered by Regrow MonitorML.

MontitorML is a new suite of models incorporating the latest innovations in remote sensing and machine learning.

MonitorML can identify agricultural field boundaries more precisely, recognize grower practices with greater accuracy, and help generate actionable insights for new supply chains, like livestock.

MonitorML is now embedded into Regrow’s Agriculture Resilience Platform and will contribute to the success of regenerative agriculture initiatives throughout the sustainability lifecycle, including:

  • Planning high ROI projects and comprehensive, multi-year decarbonization programs
  • Enrolling farmers in regenerative ag programs more efficiently
  • Reporting emissions inventories and program outcomes with precision and compliance

Plan regenerative ag programs with high impact and high ROI

Many partners come to Regrow because they want to create a scope 3 strategy based on an accurate view of the emissions ‘hotspots’ in their specific supply chain and the farming practices that drive those emissions. This level of insight requires a field level view into your supply shed that captures the things that often get muddled in other agriculture-specific sustainability datasets, like accurate field boundaries, observed growing practices, seasonal crop rotations, and annually updated emissions factors.

Having access to these insights enables you to make informed multi-year strategic decarbonization plans, and identify how you can generate carbon savings within your supply chain to hit key milestones. Regrow enables you to create these action plans using observations of current and historical practices, and then analyzing a wide range of future scenarios within your supply chain.

MonitorML now brings enhanced scale and precision to these program plans, with data on 80% more agricultural fields, and 60% more acres in the continental US than previously was in the platform. MonitorML also includes the ability to quantify emissions from hay fields, a key factor for evaluating livestock supply chains.

Enroll farmers into programs more efficiently

We've heard growers disagree about lots of things — like the right timing to plant a cover crop, or which fertilizer products are the most effective. But one thing is universal: entering data to participate in climate-smart programs is a pain.

With MonitorML, Regrow is bringing the same enhanced precision and efficiency that program managers use to plan programs into the grower enrollment process.

Using remote-sensing based field observations, we save participating growers hours of time by pre-filling their practice history data automatically, including which crops were planted, whether a cover crop was in the rotation, and the extent to which a farmer tilled each field.

MonitorML also offers growers a more accurate and comprehensive selection of pre-mapped field boundaries to choose from during enrollment, saving additional time. Without accurately mapped fields, growers can spend hours manually drawing field boundaries or manually searching through cumbersome selection menus.

Report carbon inventories and field emissions compliantly

MonitorML helps make your reporting workflows simple and accurate at the scale that’s most relevant for your programs - down to the field level or aggregated up to your supply shed.

At field level: Getting carbon insets and offsets certified is detail-oriented work. When you’re reporting the impact of an individual regen ag project, the precise field boundaries provided by MonitorML reduce the risk that fields are flagged during audit for having any additional non-agricultural land within the submitted field boundary — a frequent cause of delays that requires additional administrative time.

At supply shed scale: MonitorML enables companies using Sustainability Insights to report grower practice adoption (like no-till farming or cover crop use) and resulting GHG emissions with enhanced accuracy, across more acres, more crops, and more growing practices. Outcomes reported with Regrow support GHG inventory reduction and removal claims, product-level ingredient claims, and narrative claims for regenerative ag practice adoption.
